Hispanic Heritage Month: The Dominican Roots Behind Our Cigars

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15 through October 15, and at Hispaniola Cigars Distributor, it's personal — it's in our name. We're named after the island of Hispaniola, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and this month we're spotlighting the Dominican side of that story: the volcanic soil and generations-deep, Spanish-speaking tobacco tradition that gives our JR Tancrede cigars their character.

A Craft Passed Down, Not Manufactured

JR Tancrede cigars are hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua by artisans who learned the craft the way it's always been taught — from someone who learned it before them. There's no assembly line here. Every roll is shaped by hand, leaf by leaf, by growers and torcedores (cigar rollers) carrying forward a tradition that's been part of Dominican culture for generations.

Why We Chose the Name Hispaniola

Naming our company after the island wasn't an accident — it's a statement of where our story comes from. Several of our cigar names carry Haitian history and folklore forward, while the tobacco itself is grown and hand-rolled by Dominican and Nicaraguan artisans. It's a full-island story, and Hispanic Heritage Month is our chance to put the spotlight specifically on its Spanish-speaking half.
